research Interests (Current)

Research Interest: 

 

1)      Structure-activity studies of bioactive elastin–derived peptides.

 

2)      Molecular and supramolecular studies on model peptides of elastomeric proteins, like elastin, abductin, lamprin and resilin, focusing mainly on the molecular conformation and supramolecular self-assembling process. These studies represented the basis for the synthesis and development of protein-inspired biomaterials. 

 

3)      Synthesis by recombinant DNA technology of elastomeric protein–inspired polypeptides and structural studies. 

 

4)      Design, production and characterization  of peptide-based hydrogels and biodegradable and bioactive biopolymer-based electrospun scaffolds for skin, vascular or bone tissue engineering. 

 

5)      Design, production and characterization  of electrospun multicomponent scaffolds as drug delivery systems.

 

6)      Design, production and characterization  of eco-friendly membranes as separators in lithium ion batteries

 

7)      Design, production and characterization  of innovative membranes with piezoelectric properties for the use as electroactive component of nanogenerators.
